make a gold medal

Your toddler will love to make this shiny gold medal – it’s perfect for a sports-themed party or as a reward for taking part in games! Alternatively, they could give it to mum or dad to let them know they’re the best ever when Father’s Day or Mother’s Day comes around

You will need:

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Pencil
  • Beaker or cup
  • Safety scissors
  • Glue
  • Coloured ribbons
  • Yellow or gold paint
  • Thick paintbrush
  • Sticky stars and glitter pen
  • Craft knife (adults only!)

Steps to make a gold medal

Step 1

Draw two circles beside each other onto a piece of cardboard using an upturned beaker or cup. They need to be about 3cm apart. Draw two lines to connect the circles, then cut out as one shape.

Step 2

Make a slit along the top of your medal using scissors or a craft knife (adults only).

Step 3

Paint the card with gold (or yellow) paint and leave to dry, then decorate with stars and glitter.

Step 4

Fold the two circles together, and glue. While this dries, cut some lengths of ribbon, making sure they’re long enough to fit over your toddler’s head once tied.

Step 5

Slide the ribbon through the slit, tie the ends and let your tot wear with pride! If you’re giving it to someone special, try writing ‘Best mum’ or ‘No.1 Dad’ on the front in felt tip pen.

Like this craft? While you’ve got all the materials out, why not help your little one make a Father’s Day card too.
